This means that we conduct our inspections per the ASHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. The Standards of Practice describe the inspection as a visual inspection of particular component parts and systems of the home and its immediate surrounding features.  After each inspection, Hole in The Wall Inspections will assemble a complete report describing our findings during the inspection. Our reports include numerous photos illustrating findings along with a description of each finding and a suggested course of action, when applicable. See our list of what we inspect.

Radon testing

Hole in The Wall Inspections is certified by the state of Pennsylvania to conduct Radon testing for residential real estate.

Radon is a clear, odorless gas that occurs naturally as a result of the decomposition of rocks and particular minerals in them. Radon occurrence is widespread across the US and is common in the Philly area. It can intrude into homes with basements, slab on grade and crawl spaces. Concentrations can fluctuate considerably within a neighborhood and even between neighbors.

Radon is the second largest cause of lung cancer after smoking and can occur in people who have never smoked. Hole in The Wall Inspections deems radon measurement a critical part of every would-be real estate buyers due diligence ahead of purchase. We also advise it for any current owner who has never had their home measured for radon.

Radon testing takes a minimum of 12 hours of home preparation followed by 48 hours of measurement and can be timed to begin or end with your inspection. We will coordinate with your real estate professional to get the job done.

In the event of your home or potential home having a radon measurement higher than the EPA designated threshold, Hole in The Wall Inspections can direct you to a radon mitigation contractor to provide you an evaluation and quote to install a radon mitigation system. Mitigation, when done correctly, can bring in-house radon levels to well below threshold levels.

Termite inspections

Philly is home to a number of wood destroying organisms that can infiltrate the wooden components of your home. Their effects can be unsightly at best and damaging at worst affecting both structural integrity and the value of your property. The most prevalent of these is the termite. Carpenter ants can be just as destructive. The larvae of carpenter bees have a habit of attracting the attention of woodpeckers which in turn dole out damage to the exterior wood finishes of your home as they chase those larvae.

Hole in the Wall Inspections can conduct or arrange for a termite and other wood destroying insect inspection of your property. We can easily integrate this into your home inspection or offer it as a standalone service for existing homeowners.
